Pence faced pressure from Trump and his allies to overturn the election results. He found himself in an awkward position. He defied Trump, which led some to believe that he’s betrayed the president.
Mike Pence Twitter rumor is found to be not true
On Wednesday, January 6, a rumor swirled that Vice President Mike Pence unfollowed President Donald Trump on Twitter. The rumor spread like wildfire. Some users even claimed to have seen it with their own eyes. Per Buzzfeed News, it is not true. Pence’s personal account, @Mike_Pence, follows 48 people on Twitter, one of which is Donald Trump.
Also, his White House account, @VP, also still follow Trump. Apparently, a glitch caused some people to think that Pence unfollowed Trump. After his statement on Capitol Hill, several false tweets claimed he had unfollowed Trump. This rumor has been shared thousands of times, including those from verified accounts.
But that’s why it’s important to fact-check everything on Twitter. Daily Dot did an analysis of Pence’s personal Twitter account. At the time, it showed he was not following Trump. Then just seconds later, Pence’s account showed to be following Trump. The number of people Pence follows changed from 47 to 48.
An internet archive showed that Pence only followed 46 accounts as of January 1, 2021. However, it’s unclear if he unfollowed Trump at the time. Pence also followed only 47 people on Tuesday, January 5. Some users claim that Pence unfollowed and then re-followed Trump after the rumor swirled.

Pence has not responded about the alleged incident. Probably because he has bigger things to worry about right now. Some users are trying to figure out what happened. Others think Trump soft blocked Pence, which is a secretive way to remove a follower. Meanwhile, Trump’s personal account as of Wednesday follows both Pence’s personal account and the official @VP account.
Pence defied Trump
The pesky rumor started after Mike Pence defied Trump on Wednesday. He refused to throw out the votes that Trump claims are fraudulent. As the president of the Senate, Pence has the role of overseeing the session that certifies the Electoral College results, according to The Associated Press.
“It is my considered judgment that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not,” Pence said in his statement.

He released the statement just moments before he arrived at the Capitol to tally the electoral votes. At a rally near the White House, Trump told his supporters that Pence should overturn those votes. Later, Trump tweeted his disappointment in Pence. In the meantime, thousands of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol and breached security.
