Trump and Melania got people talking about their matching tuxedos. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump wore coordinated outfits for their Christmas official. The photo was taken on Thursday, December 10, and released on Friday.
President Trump and Melania wear their Christmas best
On Friday, December 18, Melania tweeted a photo of the two standing in the Grand Staircase of the White House. They both wore tuxedos for their official Christmas portrait.
“Merry Christmas from President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump,” she wrote.
Per The New York Post, White House photographer Andrea Hanks snapped the photo on December 10, the same day as the White House’s congressional Christmas party. The commander in chief wore a tuxedo with a cumberbund and bow while the first lady added a fashionable twist to her ensemble. She wore cigarette pants and black stilettos. She also chose to forgo the bow.
This is their first Christmas photo together since 2018. The couple did not pose for a photo together in 2019. Instead, they released photos during 2018 and 2017. The photo comes as a government shutdown was narrowly avoided on late Friday. Trump signed into law a short-term government funding bill just hours before it was set to lapse.
This gave lawmakers an additional day of negotiations as talks in Congress over the COVID-19 stimulus package rolled into the weekend. This is also the last Christmas portrait of the Trump administration as President-elect Joe Biden will take office in January. It also comes amid the controversy after recordings of Melania making negative remarks about Christmas decorations became public.

The recordings revealed Melania’s dismay in decorating and showing off the White House during the Christmas season. In the meantime, she was criticized for not doing enough work as the First Lady. Melania revamped her image by welcoming the delivery of the 2020 White House Christmas tree and showing off this year’s White House Christmas decorations in a virtual tour. Earlier this week, Melania read Christmas stories at the National Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Twitter reacts to matching outfits
Of course, Twitter had plenty to say about Donald Trump and Melania’s matching outfits. Shortly after Melania shared the photo, it received over 22,000 retweets and 132,000 likes. Not everyone liked the photo though. Here are just some of the comments:

Not everyone hated the photo though. There were plenty of positive comments. One follower wrote: “Beautiful” with a series of red heart emojis. A second user added: “Oh I LOVE it! @POTUS looks so young and dapper! @FLOTUS looks breathtaking and confident!” That brought up an interesting debate in the comments section.
