Miley Cyrus celebrated the 10th anniversary of her infamous bong video. On Sunday, December 13, the singer shared the clip on social media. She was 18 at the time that the video was taken. The former Hannah Montana smoked from a bong and lost her mind at a party.
In December 2010, TMZ leaked the video of Miley partying with her friends and smoking from the bong. She laughed and said she’s “having a little bit of a bad trip.” Fans assumed she was smoking marijuana, but Miley stated that it was salvia, a hallucinogenic herb that is legal in California and other states.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer took to Twitter to share that infamous video. However, she left out the part where she mentioned ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. The two were broken up at the time. The two later reconciled, eventually got married in 2018, and then split in 2019.
“Happy 10 anniversary to the groundbreaking video of a teenager smoking a bong & saying dumb s*** to their friends,” Miley wrote. “(Not sure the director of this fine film should be considered a ‘friend’ but…)”
“Time really flew by,” she added. “I remember this like it was yesterday….. J/K I don’t remember s*** cause I was f***ed the hell up.”
The singer also included the hashtags #YesItWasReallySalvia and #IfYouFindWeedThatDoesThisToYouSHARE. It was one of her biggest controversies at the time. Miley also caught heat for her Vanity Fair cover, leaked photos of her wearing skimpy outfits, and pole-dancing onstage at the Teen Choice Awards.

A few years later, Miley announced her love for smoking marijuana and often posted selfies of herself smoking. It was legalized for recreational use in California in 2016. But at the time of the video, it was only legal for medicinal use. In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, Miley called it “the best drug on earth.”
“One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon,” she said. “Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better. And molly, too. Those are happy drugs – social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You’re out in the open. You’re not in a bathroom.”
Miley was open about the legalization of marijuana. But now she obtains from drugs and alcohol as she now lives a sober lifestyle. In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily, the “Midnight Sky” singer admitted she fell off the wagon. She also said that she is just “not a moderation person.”

In June, Miley Cyrus announced that she was six months sober. But like everyone else, the coronavirus pandemic has been hard on her. In late November, the Black Mirror guest star celebrated two weeks of sobriety. During her interview with Zane Lowe, she admitted that slipped during the pandemic.
“I fell off and I realized that I am now back on sobriety, two weeks sober, and I feel like I really accepted that time,” she said. “One of the things I’ve used is, ‘Don’t get furious, get curious.’ So don’t be mad at yourself, but ask yourself, ‘What happened?'”
Miley explained that her issue isn’t with alcohol. It’s the consequences of her actions when she’s under the influence.
“I don’t have a problem with drinking,” she continued. “I have a problem with the decisions I make once I go pass that level … I’ve just been wanting to wake up 100%, 100% of the time.”
She also talked about the importance to safeguard her life over the past year. The singer turned 28 on November 23.
