Prince Harry made a controversial statement about the COVID-19 pandemic. He claims that it’s the earth’s punishment for pollution. Harry meant well and wanted to address climate change. But the execution wasn’t there.
The coronavirus pandemic has infected over 65 million people around the world. It has also claimed 1.5 million lives. According to the Duke of Sussex, Mother Earth punished the globe after years of human pollution and climate change.
The ginger prince made the controversial comments this week during a video call with WaterBear, per Sky News.
Why the red-headed royal is in trouble
Meghan Markle’s husband is in trouble. He spoke with WaterBear about the company’s mission to create more documentaries focused on the environment. The company wants to increase its focus on climate change. Prince Harry has always been outspoken about his commitment to global warming and eco-friendly resolutions.
During the discussion, he repeated a comment by a friend who compared the COVID-19 pandemic to a form of punishment by Mother Nature.
“Somebody said to me at the beginning of the pandemic, it’s almost as though Mother Nature has sent us to our rooms for bad behavior, to really take a moment and think about what we’ve done,” he said.
His comments received backlash from several royal fans. Many of them found it offensive to compare a global pandemic to a child’s punishment.
“It’s incredibly disrespectful to everyone who’s died and suffered from COVID,” one user tweeted.
“Harry is proof that generations of inbreeding is bad for mental health!” another user wrote.
Another royal fan called out the Sussexes for leaving a carbon footprint. According to The U.S. Sun, some have estimated that it’s as 26 times the amount of the average Brit.
“Personally, if this is the message you want to get across, that’s fine by me, just NEVER get into an SUV GAS GUZZLER again, a sports car, a speed boat, or a private jet. And perhaps, go public transport,” the person noted.
Prince Harry also receives support
However, not all of the comments are bad. Royal fans are dedicated to their faves. Some supported Prince Harry for making the controversial comment. They cited that illegal wildlife trade increases the risk of zoonotic transmission of diseases. There were early predictions that the origins of the virus come from a bat in a wet market located in Wuhan, China.
Despite the fan’s comment, Harry is more focused on climate change than the wildlife trade. In those same comments, he also likened that humans could become raindrops and save the thirsty planet. This backlash comes after reports claim that Harry and Meghan are “desperate” to revamp their image. They hired a 12th public relations executive and sued British tabloids for libel.

He still was too afraid to place the blame directly on meat eaters, who are completely responsible for zoonotic viruses like “COVID.”
