Melania Trump plans to throw several holiday parties at the White House. It doesn’t matter if the coronavirus pandemic is worse than it was earlier this year. The First Lady wants to host over a dozen indoor parties this holiday season, officials told The Washington Post. The White House insists that the parties will be safe and follow COVID-19 guidelines.
But even the supporters who received invites are still leery. Throughout December, the Republican party will millions of dollars to host several parties at the White House, including a large congressional ball on Thursday, December 10. Fifty guests will attend most of the events, and there won’t be onsite testing, one official said.
Will the White House parties follow COVID-19 guidelines?
Melania Trump is planning a lot of parties. The White House wants to move forward with its plans to host holiday parties and receptions amid the surge in coronavirus cases and warnings from public health officials. Invitations have already been sent out, reports USA Today. One invitation for the Tuesday, December 1 reception did not mention face coverings or social distancing.
Stephanie Grisham, spokesperson and chief staff for First Lady Melania Trump, said on Monday that masks were required. Also, social distancing took place on the White House grounds.
“The People’s House will celebrate Christmas and Hannukah while providing the safest environment possible,” Graham said in a statement.
She also revealed that this year’s party had a smaller guest list. Most of the guests will feast on food plated by chefs who stand at plexiglass-protected food stations. Beverages remained covered, and all service staff wore masks and gloves to comply with food safety guidelines. Also, hand-sanitizer stations will be available throughout the State Floor. However, a video went viral, showing that no social distancing or face coverings took place at the celebration.
This decision comes after public health officials warned Americans to cancel travel plans and avoid in-person gatherings over the Thanksgiving holiday. The coronavirus pandemic has infected over 12 million Americans and killed over 250,000. As the pandemic rages on, Melania has been getting into the Christmas spirit. She unveiled this year’s White House Christmas décor theme.
Should Melania Trump cancel her plans?
The White House is not immune to the pandemic. White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and several of his staffers tested positive for the virus. So far, more than a dozen people, including President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, tested positive for COVID-19. The outbreak happened after they attended a Rose Garden ceremony in late September, in which Trump announced the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
If the White House pushes ahead with its plans, despite the COVID concerns, more people could be at risk. If Melania doesn’t care about Christmas, she should use this global pandemic as an excuse to cancel holiday plans. What are your thoughts? Sound off below.
