Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appeared at a charity event. This comes one day after the Duchess of Sussex shared her miscarriage story in a personal essay. The couple is currently grieving after she suffered a miscarriage over the summer. But they took that pain and turned it into something beautiful.
The former members of the Royal British Family want to help kids in need. The couple made a rare appearance in Los Angeles as part of a drive-through event for Baby2Baby. The L.A.-based national nonprofit organization supplies school supplies, clothing, and more to those in need. This is the first time that Meghan and Harry have been spotted at a charity event since leaving the royal family earlier this year.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry do some good
At the event, Meghan Markle knelt down to help a young boy with his backpack. Meanwhile, Prince Harry quietly attended the event. He also handed goods to recipients in their vehicles. It was a socially-distanced and relatively safe event.
The couple previously interacted with children in late August. During that time, they joined preschoolers and teachers in Los Angeles where they planted flowers and vegetables in the school’s garden. It was also the 23rd anniversary of the death of Harry’s mom, Princess Diana.
“Everyone got their hands dirty digging holes for the new plants and seeds and making sure they were secure with enough soil,” one source told People.
Around that time, Meghan encouraged young Americans to vote. In that same month, she held a “backyard chat” with feminist icon Gloria Steinem. The two women talked about the importance of younger women voting in the 2020 election. Meghan also made several virtual appearances to discuss the topic leading up to the November presidential election.
She shared her heartbreaking story in a personal essay
This latest sighting comes after Meghan Markle wrote a personal essay in the New York Times on Wednesday, November 25. She opened up about the miscarriage she suffered in July. It took place at the couple’s home in Montecito, California, where she realized that something was wrong. It was a morning that wasn’t like any other.
“It was a July morning that began as ordinarily as any other day: Make breakfast. Feed the dogs. Take vitamins. Find that missing sock. Pick up the rogue crayon that rolled under the table,” Meghan recalled. “Throw my hair in a ponytail before getting my son from his crib.”
She said she “felt a sharp cramp” after changing her son’s diaper. It was so painful that she fell to the floor in agony. It was at that moment Meghan knew “that I was losing my second” child. In the essay, Meghan also recalled the time she cried with Harry as she laid in her hospital bed.
Meghan’s personal essay received a lot of praise. Miscarriages are more common than people think. And it’s important for women to share their story so others know that they are not alone.
