2020 was supposed to be a banner year for rock icons Bon Jovi. Not only were they releasing their 15th studio album, they planned a nationwide tour to promote it. The tour was set to kick-off in June in Tacoma, Washington, before ending with an epic two-night show at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Canadian rocker Bryan Adams signed on to open for the band.
Then COVID Happened
In March, the U.S. shut down into quarantine amid rising cases of COVID-19. Bon Jovi was one of many bands forced to postpone their 2020 tour. At the time, Ticketmaster was only offering refunds if the tour was cancelled, rather than postponed. Noting that their fans needed the money, Bon Jovi outright cancelled the tour to allow for refunds.
The new album, aptly titled 2020, was set to release in May, right in the middle of the tour. However, the release date was pushed back due to the pandemic. Jon Bon Jovi actually found some inspiration amid the public health crisis and released the uplifting anthem “Do What You Can,” which would later be recorded for the album.
In fact, lead singer Jon Bon Jovi reunited with country songstress Jennifer Nettles on a second version of “Do What You Can.” The 2020 album ultimately came out in early October. Since Bon Jovi can’t promote the album in person, they will do it online instead.
Bon Jovi Presents ‘A Quarantine Concert Film’ of Entire New Album
Thanksgiving is a time for turkey, pies…. and a little Bon Jovi. Since fans can’t come to see the band in stadiums, Bon Jovi is bringing the concert to your living room! In a post to his Instagram, Jon Bon Jovi shared the news about the upcoming concert premiere.
In a trailer for the venture, the Bon Jovi frontman promises fans the band will play 2020 in its entirety. Dubbed “A Quarantine Concert Film,” the band adheres to social distancing. The short trailer shows Jon Bon Jovi getting his nose swapped, presumably for a rapid coronavirus test. The band will likely explain how they were able to safely film the concert.
“On A Night Like This” will premiere on Friday, November 27th, at 6 p.m. Eastern. It will stream for FREE on Bon Jovi’s official Facebook and YouTube channel!
JBJ Misses Touring
Very few bands in the industry tour as frequently as Bon Jovi. In fact, Richie Sambora cites the heavy tour schedule as a main reason he left the band in 2013. Touring was starting to wear on the rest of the band, too. They now stagger their tours by touring the U.S. one year and then Europe/Asia the next year. Their last U.S. tour was in 2018 to promote the This House Is Not For Sale album.
They have yet to reschedule the 2020 tour dates, but Jon Bon Jovi is itching to get on the road. Earlier this week he posted a video to his Instagram. In the video, the Bon Jovi frontman pensively strums a guitar. In the caption, he asks, “Is it tour time yet?…”
The Inquisitr notes that the singer is sporting socks with the Bon Jovi name and logo on them. In the comments, fans agree that it is time for the band to hit the road on tour!
Hopefully Bon Jovi can resume the tour in 2021. In the meantime, fans can watch the virtual concert on Friday, November 27th. Bon Jovi will rock a million faces in the comfort (and safety) of fans’ own homes!
