Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Expect Barack Obama To Take On A Position In Biden’s Administration

While the much-hyped ‘blue wave’ of voters never came, a wave of nostalgia pushed Joe Biden ahead of Donald Trump in the 2020 election. Even though Trump walked back his concession that Biden won, the former Vice President is moving forward with his administration plans.

That includes naming White House staffers and choosing candidates for Cabinet positions. Many people are hoping to see one name on the list: former President Barack Obama.

Obama Responds to Rumors of a Role in Biden’s Administration

Joe Biden won’t officially be the President-Elect until the votes are certified next month. However, he is already planning for the Presidency. At this early stage, that means hiring staff to fill both the White House and the other executive departments that make up the Cabinet.

Throughout the 2020 campaign, Biden supporters expressed hope that he would reunite with Obama by appointing the former President to his Cabinet. While many people agreed with the Obama-Biden administration’s policies, the ‘bromance’ between the President and Vice-President got a lot of attention, too.

Barack Obama has a new post-presidency memoir out now, A Promised Land. He has been promoting the book’s release with talk show appearances. He recently chatted with Gayle King on CBS Sunday Morning. And, of course she asked him about the possibility of him joining the Biden administration.

Sadly, Obama was pretty dead-set against it. Or rather, Michelle Obama is. In his half-joking, half-serious way, the former President said that Michelle would “leave me” if he went back into politics. Furthermore, he revealed that his two terms in the highest office in the U.S. were very stressful for the former First Lady.

He said that after he left office, “She was able to let go of some of the stress of feeling as if, ‘I’ve got to get everything right all the time.’”

While the Obamas campaigned for Biden, they don’t plan to return to politics at this time. They won’t be out of the public eye completely, however. The Obamas recently inked a deal with Netflix and Mrs. Obama started a podcast, The Michelle Obama podcast, The Grio reports.

Biden White House Staffing Picks So Far

President-Elect Biden’s inauguration won’t be for another two months. But he is chomping at the bit to start preparing for the transition. But first he needs to fill important staffing positions in the White House, such as his Chief of Staff and other essential workers.

The NPR reports that Biden has chosen Ron Klain as his Chief of Staff. You can read the other staff picks here.

So far, Biden has only named positions that don’t need confirmation from the Senate. Florida Senator Marco Rubio recently said he doesn’t foresee easy confirmation for Biden’s nominees if the Republicans hold onto the Senate majority, a Florida political news site reports.

Could Biden Reach Across the Aisle to Fill Cabinet Positions?

Red states vs. blue states. Conservative vs. liberal. Republican vs. Democrat. It seems the United States has never been more divided. After promising to bring the country together if elected, Biden is facing calls for bipartisan, starting with his Cabinet picks. Rather than choosing only Democratic nominees, Biden’s critics challenge him to consider Republicans for some Cabinet positions.
