Elon Musk is not a stranger to going viral. After his newborn baby with singer Grimes was born, the couple had a public spat over the pronunciation of baby X Æ A-12’s name. The entrepreneur went viral again on Monday, November 16, after Twitter users responded with complete derision at his tweets about COVID-19 testing.
Elon Musk Recounts COVID-19 Testing Snafu
On November 13, the billionaire took to Twitter to vent about his experience with COVID-19 testing. Apparently, he tested positive on Friday, but four tests showed different results. He tweeted to his 40 million followers his distrust of the testing system.
He wrote, “Something extremely bogus [is] going on.” He went on to reveal that he took FOUR tests in one day with different results. Two of the tests came back negative and two were positive. It was the “same machine, same test, same nurse” for all four tests.
The Tesla founder then went on to question the reliability of the COVID-19 testing in follow-up tweets. One Twitter user with a Ph.D. in epigenetics saw his tweets and their response went viral.
Twitter User Explains Testing Mishap, Dubs Musk ‘Space Karen’
Twitter user @emmabell42 describes themselves as “nonbinary,” doing postdoctoral work in bioinformatics. They responded to Elon Musk’s confusion over the COVID test results.
First, they quickly shot holes into Elon Musk’s claims that the tests are “bogus.” According to the post-doctorate, the tests “trade sensitivity for speed.” That means that unless you are “absolutely riddled” with COVID-19, you may get a false negative.
Furthermore, Elon Musk, of all people, should know how to research “before complaining to his millions of followers.” In an epic diss, the Paypal co-founder earns the nickname “Space Karen.”

The moniker quickly went viral, trending on Twitter on November 16. Another social media user, @sarahfdavis280, tweeted the hashtag with a picture of Elon Musk photoshopped with reality TV star Kate Gosselin, the original ‘Karen’ haircut.

‘Karen’ is a catchall phrase to describe women who make frivolous complaints without reason. But does Elon Musk have a reason to complain?
SpaceX Launches 2nd Mission Without COVID-Positive Elon Musk
On Sunday, November 15, Elon Musk’s SpaceX program successfully launched a second rocket into space. Four astronauts were on board, heading to the International Space Station. Due to testing positive for coronavirus, Elon Musk couldn’t be on-hand to see the night launch, Fox News reports.
Given those circumstances, do you blame Elon Musk for doubting the veracity of the testing? Or was he, indeed, just being a ‘Space Karen’?
