‘Counting On’ Duggar Kids Suffered From ‘Corporal Punishment’?
Counting On alums Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have shared how they raised 19 children for many years. Unfortunately, things went sideways when Josh was arrested in April 2021. Since then, the amount of people trying to expose the married couple’s wrongdoings has dramatically increased. However, some Redditors were surprised by the possibility that Jim Bob and Michelle’s children suffered from “corporal punishment.” Keep reading to see the discussion.
Counting On: How Are Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Today?
Jim Bob and Michelle have stepped away from social media since the CSAM arrest of Josh in April 2021. However, the Counting On alums still appear in some of their kids’ vlogs and social media posts. The married couple have also been present when it comes to celebrating pregnancies in the family and welcoming their new grandbabies. On January 8, 2025, Jim Bob and Michelle appeared in Jed Duggar’s vlog to welcome Katey’s twin baby girls.
Many fans have also noticed that Jim Bob and Michelle lost some weight, and some believe they’re now living a healthy lifestyle, far from what they used to have when they were still filming with TLC. But there are speculations that their weight loss was caused by stress after all the controversies they’ve faced in recent years.
Duggar Kids Suffered From Corporal Punishment?
Some Counting On fans on Reddit discussed the possibility that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar used “corporal punishment” for their kids, which is a form of “light” physical punishment. Regardless, many Redditors believe Jim Bob and Michelle’s way may be much worse, especially with the allegations that they were using “blanket training” for the kids back in the day.
- “I’m not sure they’ve ever said as much in so many words but they were mostly raised in the 90’s and they live in the south so spanking would have been a very typical form of discipline used for nearly every family.”
- “This. I grew up in a progressive, mainline Christian family in North Carolina in the 1980s-1990s. We were more liberal than the Duggars on all accounts, but I still got spanked on occasion. I would never use corporal punishment on my own children, and I don’t think my parents would if they were doing it over. But it was very much a normal, mainstream, secular approach to parenting back then.”
- “It’s awful how commonplace spanking was in the 90s. My parents had to explicitly tell my babysitters and teachers not to use corporal punishment. It was literally opt out and not opt in, that’s how normalized it was.”
- “There is that one video of them telling their kids that Michelle is pregnant again (I want to say it was with Jubilee), where Josiah looks upset. The video cuts and when it comes back Jim Bob is roughly grabbing his arm and he is fake smiling.”
Counting On: Will The Duggar Family Return To TV?
TLC announced that they’re parting ways with the Duggar family following Josh’s arrest in 2021. Since then, the network has never mentioned working with the family again. However, several Duggars are starting to share more of their lives online. One of them is Jinger, who previously acknowledged the possibility of them returning to the small screens. But the Counting On alum admitted that it won’t be the same as before, adding that she couldn’t replicate all their nostalgic moments.
