In September 2023, Jill published a book titled “Counting The Cost.” It features her struggles growing up around cameras and how she was able to break free from the IBLP’s questionable teachings. The memoir also included harsh revelations about her parents, Jim Bob and Michelle. She’s already estranged from the family before releasing the book. But it seems “Counting The Cost” made things worse for them. Many people commended Jill for speaking up, and some Bringing Up Bates fans on Reddit are curious if someone from the Bates family will do the same.
Will A Bates Child Speak Up Like Jill?
Some Reddit users discussed the possibility that someone from the Bates family would “speak up” just like Jill did to her parents. It’s no secret that the Bates children grew up with the cameras and attended the same church as the Duggars. Several family members have already stepped away from their strict core values, such as Carlin and Katie. However, several Bringing Up Bates fans pointed out that Gil and Kelly Jo allowed their kids to make their own choices, which may be different from Jim Bob and Michelle.

Gil and Kelly Jo Bates continue to stay in touch with fans despite the cancellation of their show in 2021. Many of their social media posts today are about family gatherings and other celebrations. Last July, the Bringing Up Bates stars welcomed their 30th grandchild, William Daniel, the first child of Lawson and Tiffany. Gil and Kelly Jo are also expecting to welcome their 31st and 32nd grandchild from Esther and Katie this year.
