WWE Smackdown presented their go-home show leading up to WWE Summerslam this Saturday night. A new intercontinental champion was crowded, a contract signing took place, and John Cena and Roman Reigns went face to face. Here are five of the best moments that took place on Friday Night Smackdown for August 13, 2021.
WWE Smackdown: 5 Must-See Moments
1) Shinsuke Nakamura wins the Intercontinental Title
In recent years, Shinsuke Nakamura has been in wrestling purgatory floundering in the mid-card without much direction. That all changed after earlier this summer with his defeat over Baron Corbin and becoming the new King of the WWE in the process. Nakamura’s next step came on Friday Night Smackdown with an Intercontinental Title win over champion Apollo Crews following a Kinshasa.
2) Rey and Dominik Mysterio gain momentuem
Rey and Dominik Mysterio are just a week away from their shot at the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles against the Usos. Standing in their way were former champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. After a solid match, the Mysterio’s were able to pick up the win after Dominik rolled up Roode.
Corbin’s low point
3) Baron Corbin loses to Kevin Ownes, steals MITB contract
Ever since losing the King of the Ring crown earlier this year, Baron Corbin has been on a steep decline. While for storyline purposes, it’s a tough time for the character, but in reality, it’s the first time that Corbin has been entertaining in years. Corbin took a loss to Kevin Owens on WWE Smackdown, but then stole the Money in the Bank briefcase from Big E. before running out of the area.

4) Women’s Title contract signing
One of the headline matches for WWE Summerslam this year is Bianca Belair defending her WWE Smackdown Women’s Title against former champion Sasha Banks. A contract signing was set up on Friday night, with Zelina Vega and Carmella making their way down to the ring. A brawl quickly ensued between Banks and Belair, before Vega and Carmela got in on the action. Belair made quick work of Carmela and Vega before getting hit with the Back Stabber and a Bank Statement to close the show.
5) John Cena and Roman Reigns, war of words
After Roman reigns defeated Edge at the Money in the Bank PPV last month, John Cena made his WWE return. A match was quickly set up for WWE Summerslam with Cena challenging Reigns for the WWE Title. On Friday Night Smackdown, John Cena got into the champion’s face and made a bold prediction that he would walk out of the PPV with the title back around his waist.
