The Houston Rockets became one of the all-time favorites ever since James Harden arrived on the team. However, the Rockets never had a solid run throughout their years with Harden. The team even tried signing some NBA veteran players like Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook, and Carmelo Anthony to pair with Harden. However, they always fell short during the playoffs. Due to this, Harden decided to leave the team to seek a brighter future. Harden’s departure from the Rockets was considered unpleasant. However, despite the feud, the Rockets announced that they will still retire Harden’s number 13 jersey.

NBA: Houston Rockets To Retire Harden’s Jersey

According to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, they will retire James Harden’s number 13 jersey in honor of his eight incredible seasons with the team. Apparently, Harden won his first NBA MVP with the Rockets back in 2014. Harden has been breaking the record books ever since he arrived in the Rockets. Due to this, Fertitta wants to thank him for all the efforts he did during his time with the team. “James Harden will always be a Rocket,” Fertita said. “Of course, we will retire his jersey. He made my first three years of owning the franchise unforgettable,” she added.

Fertita also said that Harden is one of the main reasons why the Rockets’ fanbase exploded exponentially. Harden’s jersey retirement in the Rockets will put him amongst Calvin Murphy, Moses Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Rudy Tomjanovich, Clyde Drexler, and Yao Ming, who are all considered Rockets legends.

Why Did Harden Leave The Rockets?

Unfortunately, James Harden had to leave the Houston Rockets as he wanted to play on a competitive team. During an interview, he said, “It’s something that I don’t think can be fixed.” Apparently, the Rockets often struggle when it comes to the playoffs. At first, the Rockets don’t seem to care about Harden’s trade request. Due to this, Harden started rebelling against the team by attending parties and skipping team practices. NBA analysts believe that Harden’s rebellious acts forced the Rockets to trade him. Harden landed on the Brooklyn Nets to pair with his former teammate Kevin Durant.

The Brooklyn Nets have been dominating the league recently. It also appears that teams are struggling on defending the trio of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant. NBA analysts also believe that the Nets have the highest chance of winning this year’s championship. Apparently, the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling lately. Anthony Davis is also out for a few weeks due to his Achilles and calf injuries. Marc Gasol will also miss upcoming games due to health and safety protocols. Meanwhile, the Nets recently had a dominating win against the Houston Rockets. Harden scored 29 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists in 41 minutes of playing.

The Brooklyn Nets will face the Boston Celtics on March 12, 2021.
