If you follow the British Royals, you might have heard about Princess Diana’s controversial BBC Panorama interview. For generations, the royals kept all their private matters locked up behind closed doors. “Never complain, never explain” is a mantra linked closely to the family.
The Panorama Interview With Princess Diana Gave The World A Glimpse Inside The Royal Family’s Private Life
But in 1995, Princess Diana changed all that when she agreed to do the Panorama interview with Martin Bashir. Many people actually believe that was the tipping point in her marriage to Prince Charles.
Even now in 2020, people are still talking about it. But that doesn’t mean they’re happy about it. Princess Diana’s two sons, William and Harry, believe there was a lot of shadiness around the whole interview. Martin Bashir allegedly used unethical tactics to secure the interview with the late princess that involved falsified bank statements.
Many believe Bashir coerced her into the interview, and they want answers.
The BBC launched an investigation as a result of the allegations. But not everyone was pleased with the way the BBC handled things. Earl Charles Spencer, Princess Diana’s bother, made his feelings on the matter very clear.
As I’ve told the BBC this evening, I’m not at all satisfied with the parameters they’ve set around their enquiry into the @BBCPanorama interview with Diana of 25 years ago tonight. Lord Dyson must be free to examine every aspect of this matter, from 1995 to today, as he sees fit.

Princess Diana’s Sons Made Amends During The Investigation
But even so, the investigation reportedly brought Prince William and Prince Harry closer together. The brothers grew apart after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left their royal duties and moved to California. But things may be on the mend now.
“The investigation has had a positive effect on William and Harry’s relationship,” a source told Us Weekly. “They’ve bonded over it and are speaking more frequently on Zoom and WhatsApp. William has come to terms with the reasons behind Harry’s decision to leave the royal family and is happy to see his brother so settled, and Harry’s come to the realization that he no longer wants a dark cloud hanging over his head.”
Both brothers feel passionately about the subject and hope the investigation will get to the bottom of things.
Fictionalized Depictions Stir Up Heavy Emotions
While the public waits for more answers, fans are watching the latest season of The Crown where a fictional version of Princess Diana makes her first appearance. But Princess Diana’s brother wants viewers to know they aren’t watching a true historical documentary.
“I feel it is my duty to stand up for her when I can,” he said in an interview.
A Princess Diana biopic starring Kristen Stewart as the late princess is also stirring emotions. But at the end of the day, fans love hearing about the life of Princess Diana. People will likely continue to watch The Crown and will go to see the biopic, no matter how her surviving relatives feel about it.
