7 Foods Affected By The Food Dye Ban

The new food dye ban is supposed to take place in 2026. Red Dye 3 is what they are banning, but they have until 2027 to get it out of foods. The FDA is working hard to find alternatives to using it for your favorite foods. They are also looking at banning several other food dyes to include Red No. 40, Yellow No. 5 (Tartrazine) Yellow No. 6 (Sunset Yellow FCF), Blue No. 1 (Brilliant Blue FCF), Blue No. 2 (Indigo Carmine), Green No. 3 (Fast Green FCF), Citrus Red No. 2 and Orange B. A lot of people are afraid of what foods will be affected by this. Keep reading to find out 7 foods that could be affected.

  1. Soft Drinks and Sports Drinks – These will be affected, but it is not like they will be going away. They may just not look as bright and eye-catching when you see them.
  2. Packaged Mac and Cheese – The packaged mac and cheese that you love has yellow dye in it. Can you imagine eating it and it just being the color of the noodles? Well, that could end up being what they have to do.
  3. Lucky Charms and other cereals – Lucky Charms is a kid’s favorite at most houses! They are going to have to find a different way to color the marshmallows, and they could end up being not nearly as pretty as they are now. A few other cereals could be affected as well.
  4. Various Candy – Lots of candy has dyes in it and this includes Red Dye 3. Airheads, Skittles and more have other food dyes in them, which makes them going to need to be changed as well.
  5. Chips such as Takis – Some chips have food dyes in them and this includes the fan favorite Takis. They use Blue No. 1 to make them. Cheetos are another one that has food dyes.
  6. Pillsbury Funfetti frostings – Many of these contain food dye, which makes it where they will need to be changed. Your cakes and cookies may not be nearly as bright and pretty as they once were.
  7. Twinkies – If you love Twinkies and other bakery items like this you could end up losing them or they are going to look different. Twinkies have yellow dye in them so the color could be looking different for you soon.
