Bringing Up Bates star Kelly Jo Bates and some of her kids have started sharing content from their annual family gathering called “I Love You Day.” It’s their alternative way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. But to make it special, the family dresses up as their characters from classic TV shows. However, it seems Kelly Jo has something to say about this year’s gathering. Keep reading to see why.
Bringing Up Bates: The Bates Family’s ‘I Love You Day’ Almost Didn’t Happen
The Bates family faced a major setback earlier this year after Kelly Jo nearly died following an emergency surgery. The Bringing Up Bates star underwent two surgeries to remove a kidney stone, which had turned septic. According to Kelly Jo, she suffered from so much pain during her visit to Mama Jane and Papa Bill in South Carolina. She was also told by the doctors that she would’ve died if she had waited for another day.
It was later revealed that Kelly Jo’s hospitalization was one of the main reasons why “I Love You Day” was moved this month. Kelly Jo added that Gil’s 60th birthday party last January was also a huge event for the family, as well as their trip to Utah for their skiing event. Due to this, she decided to take a quick break, but many are glad that the annual event was never canceled.

Carlin Bates Stewart recently took to social media to share clips from the Bates family’s “I Love You Day.” But one of the videos shows the mess that the family left at the big house after the party. Kelly Jo then reuploaded the clip and put a side-eye emoji on it, seemingly hinting that she wasn’t happy with the chaotic aftermath of “I Love You Day,” as she may need to clean it up amid her recovery from surgery.
Regardless, many of Carlin’s clips show that Kelly Jo and Gil had a blast at the event, making unforgettable memories with their grandkids. The Bringing Up Bates stars also dressed up as people from the 1950s and still did their tradition of best in costume awards.

Kelly Jo Bates also contributed with her own social media clip. She uploaded a video featuring some of the games that they played. The Bringing Up Bates star went creative and made up many fun games for the grandkids. She also shared a clip of Zade being so excited after winning one of the games.
Jackson and Emerson Bates brought out the biggest announcement in the annual event. The married couple revealed that they’re expecting their first child. Michaela Bates shared a heartwarming post with the couple and said that they’re expecting a baby boy. This confirmed the long-time speculations that Jackson was finally becoming a dad. It all started when some fans discovered a private baby registry from the couple. Kelly Jo then fueled the speculations after hinting that there may be an unannounced pregnancy after Carlin and Lydia’s.
