Princess Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank has revealed the story of a secret royal tunnel to a London cocktail bar. As fans of the monarchy know, the Royal Family often has problems avoiding the paparazzi. In fact, sometimes, as in Princess Diana’s case, problems the paparazzi can lead to their death. Should a member of the Royal Family wish to pop out for a quick cocktail, someone came up with a great idea. Jack says there is reportedly a secret royal tunnel, leading from St. James’ Palace to the Dukes Bar in the Dukes Hotel.
Princess Eugenie’s husband reveals royal tunnel to a London cocktail bar
One has to sympathize with members of the Royal Family who can’t seem to go anywhere without cameras pointing at them. The paparazzi literally chased Princess Diana to death. Meanwhile, this kind of attention is part of the reasoning for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to leave the royal family. Admittedly, since they did so, they are in the headlines even more than before.
Over the years, some enterprising royals have taken matters into their own hands, finding ways to discreetly pop out for a drink. One of these is a secret tunnel, running from St. James’ Palace all the way to the Dukes Bar in London’s Dukes Hotel.
Richard Eden of the Daily Mail has recently reported that Jack Brooksbank, Princess Eugenie’s husband, has revealed the existence of the hidden tunnel. Reportedly at a London party, Brooksbank told Eden, “There is one to Dukes Bar from St James’s Palace.” However, Jack did admit that he hasn’t used it yet but would love to check it out.
About St. James’ Palace
Prior to Buckingham Palace, St. James’ Palace was the residence of Britain’s monarch. However, more recently, the palace has been home to various members of the Royal Family.
These include Princess Anne, Princess Alexandra and Princess Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice. Eugenie also lived there for a while prior to moving to Kensington Palace where she resides with her husband Jack.
About Dukes Bar in Mayfair
Meanwhile, Dukes Bar is set in the iconic Dukes Hotel in Mayfair, London. The elegant venue is renowned for its martinis and according to legend, James Bond author Ian Fleming was inspired by the bar. It led him to choose a medium dry martini as Bond’s signature martini drink and coined the famous phrase “shaken not stirred.”
Just for fun, readers can watch the head barman at Dukes Bar as he crafts the famous vesper martini, the signature 007 drink.
Hopefully, Jack Brooksbank will eventually try out the secret passage, as it would make sense due to his profession. It turns out he works in the liquor industry himself. Prior to his marriage to Eugenie, Jack was the general manager of Mahiki, a Mayfair nightclub. These days, he is a brand ambassador for George Clooney’s famous Casamigos tequila. Cheers!
