WWE Smackdown moved closer to the next big event WWE Summerslam, taking place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next month. For your quick recap, here are the top five must-see moments from Friday Night Smackdown.
WWE Smackdown:
5) Rey Mysterio d. Jimmy Uso
With the tag team titles hanging in the balance between the Mysterio’s and the Usos, WWE Smackdown got a preview on Friday night. Solid TV match as we move to the final stretch. Rey Mysterio attempts the 619 but Jimmy catches him in a fireman’s carry. Tey reverses into a crucifix with a little help from Dominik to get the pin. Despite the Usos remaining strong due to the association with Reigns, the Mysterios got a nice win to keep them moving forward. Skim It as far as the match goes with a **1/2 rating.
A New Challenger
4) Big E./Shinsuke Nakamura/Cesaro d. Dolph Ziggler/Robert Roode/Apollo Crews
This 6-man was a cluster from the get-go but the important aspect of the match was the finish. All six men enter the ring and trade-off some of their top moves leading to Azeez entering in the ring. Azeez is distracted by Boogs and his guitar which allows Nakamura to his the Kinshasa on Apollo Crews for the win. With his pinfall victory, Nakamura has earned the right to challenge Crews for the Intercontinental title. As for the match, Skim It with a **1/4.
WWE Smackdown: A Feud Continues
3) Seth Rollins cheap shot on Edge
Edge made his way down to the ring for an interview but was quickly attacked in the entrance by Seth Rollins. Both men have been at each other’s throats in an attempt to challenge Roman Reigns for the title and it was made even more clear on Friday Night Smackdown. Rollins beat down Edge, including a vicious shot with the camera.
A turncoat revealed
2) Sasha Banks/Bianca Belair d. Carmella/Zelina Vega
The unlikely pairing of Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair was short-lived and more than obvious on WWE Smackdown. At the conclusion of the match, Vega goes for the Black Widow is broken up as Belair makes the hot tag to Banks. Banks cleans house and hits the three Amigos to Vega. Banks goes up top and gets a two-count after a frog splash due to Carmella making the save. Carmella attempts an X-Factor for Banks reverses it into the Bank Statement for the win. After the match, the winning team celebrates until Banks turns on Belair to set up another match between the two. Take a Pass on the match (*1/2 or so) but check out the ending angle as the women’s division on WWE Smackdown heats up.
A New Main Event
1) Roman Reigns/Finn Balor contract signing, John Cena appears
Reigns was quick to put his pen to paper and warn that he will knock Balor back to WWE NXT. Balor was ready to sign the contract but was blindsided by Baron Corbin. Corbin was ready to put his name on the paper until John Cena made the save and took out the former King of the Ring winner. Alone in the ring, Cena was the one to sign the contract and set up his match against Reigns at Summerslam.
