Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce birth of their daughter
In a post on the Archewell Instagram on Sunday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the birth of their daughter. They wrote that it is with “great joy” they welcome Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor to the world.
Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 am at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. Harry and Meghan’s daughter weighed 7 lbs 11 oz and both mother and child are healthy and well. They are now settling in at home with Lili’s proud dad, Harry.
The couple’s Instagram statement noted that Lili is Prince Harry and Meghan’s second child. She joins her older brother, two-year-old Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Sussexes said she is “more than we could ever have imagined.”
Meanwhile, they remain grateful for the love and prayers they have felt from across the globe. Prince Harry and Meghan thanked everyone for their continued kindness and support during this very special time for their family. Moreover, the couple urged anyone who wishes to send gifts to “support or learn more about” organizations working for women and girls.
How did Lili get her name?
Harry and Meghan’s newborn daughter, Lili, is named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. She has received Her Majesty’s family nickname of Lilibet, while her middle name, Diana, honors her beloved late grandmother, Princess Diana.
According to a statement from Buckingham Palace, the Queen, Prince Charles and Camilla, as well as Prince William and Kate are delighted to hear the news. Lilibet is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and is eight in line to the throne. This means that the Queen’s second son, Prince Andrew, now moves down to the ninth place.
