A royal author has made a controversial claim about Prince William and Kate Middleton. She says they seem “dowdy, suburban and rather dull” compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to Anna Pasternak, this doesn’t go down well in the palace.
William and Kate ‘dull’ compared to Harry and Meghan
Anne Pasternak claims that when Harry and Meghan arrived on the scene, this made William and Kate look less exciting by comparison. She is the author of The Real Wallis Simpson: A New History of the American Divorcee Who Became the Duchess of Windsor. Pasternak also wrote a book about Princess Diana’s affair with James Hewitt.
Speaking to Vanity Fair magazine, Pasternak alleged that tensions have arisen between the two households. She said these tensions come from the way in which the two households are perceived by the public.
Pasternak said the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were “suddenly too electric.” Harry and Meghan made the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge seem “dowdy, suburban and rather dull” by comparison. She added that this doesn’t go down well in the palace.
According to the author, she believes the behavior of Harry and William reflects that of the late Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Pasternak said that William and Harry are playing out the dynamic of their parents. According to her, William is very aligned with his father in his sense of duty above emotion.
Prince Harry the ‘rebel spirit’
Meanwhile, Pasternak said Prince Harry is being described as a “rebel spirit” after the blockbuster interview. She was referring to the explosive interview between Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In that interview, the Sussexes made several allegations about their time in the palace.
One allegation was that a senior member of the Royal Family had commented on the color of Meghan’s unborn child’s skin. Meghan further alleged that palace aides had denied her help with her mental health issues, despite saying she was experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Issues raised in Oprah interview ‘concerning’
Buckingham Palace made a statement in response to the interview. They said how “saddened” the whole family was to learn that it had been so challenging for Harry and Meghan. The statement said the issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, the statement said they are taken very seriously. The issues will be addressed privately by the family.
Meanwhile, Pasternak says she is unsure what this means to the future of the British monarchy. She said Harry and Meghan have sparked something “fundamentally incendiary” in the country. Pasternak says it is changing the face of Britain. The royal author said she thinks the monarchy, as an “archaic institution may well topple.”
