Prince Harry Returns To California After Attending Prince Philip’s Funeral

After attending Prince Philip’s funeral with the rest of the Royal Family, Prince Harry chose to head home to California. He is now back home in Montecito with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son Archie. This meant that Harry missed the Queen’s 95th birthday on Wednesday.

Prince Harry returns home after Prince Philip’s funeral

Harry, 36, arrived in the UK on April 11 in order to quarantine at Frogmore Cottage in time for the funeral. Meanwhile, the funeral marked the first time he has seen the Royal Family in over a year. It is also the first time he has been with the Royal Family since the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Prince Philip’s funeral was held at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday, April 17. At the sad event, Prince Harry reunited with the Royal Family. He joined his brother Prince William, 38, and his father Prince Charles in walking behind Prince Philip’s coffin during the funeral procession. However, rather than the brothers walking side-by-side, their cousin, Peter Philips (Princess Anne’s son) walked between them.

Following the funeral service, Prince Harry and Prince William were seen chatting together with William’s wife, Kate Middleton. They continued to speak as they walked away from the chapel.

Difficult time in the Royal Family

A royal insider told People that it has been a very difficult time for the Royal Family. They said the Duke was the head of the family and if there was any time Harry and William were going to come together, it was now.

Meghan Markle is expecting the couple’s second child, a baby girl, this summer. She didn’t accompany Harry on the trip to the UK as she was “advised by her physician not to travel,” according to a royal spokesman. However, Meghan watched the live stream of the funeral from their home in Montecito.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex provided a wreath to honor the Duke of Edinburgh. The wreath, designed by Willow Crossley who handled the flower arrangements for their wedding, included a private, hand-written note by Markle.

Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday

There was speculation that Harry might stay over to celebrate his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday, but he chose not to. Queen Elizabeth spent a quieter birthday this year in the wake of her husband’s passing at the age of 99 on April 9.

A heartwarming note from the Queen appeared on Twitter. In the note, Queen wrote that she had received many messages of good wishes, which she very much appreciated. She continued, writing that while as a family they are in a period of great sadness, it has been a comfort to them all to see and to hear the tributes paid to her husband from within the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and around the world.
