Kate Middleton is a full-time senior working royal and a mother of three children. While that seems to be a lot to handle, it turns out the Duchess of Cambridge also has a less formal role in the Royal Family. Prince William’s wife is also a talented photographer who captures many images of the royals.
Kate Middleton – informal photographer to the Royal Family
The royals recently released a series of images in tribute to the passing of Prince Philip. One notable image showed the Queen, Prince Philip and seven of their 10 great-grandchildren. Fans of the Royal Family appreciated this previously unseen image and it turns out it was taken by Kate Middleton herself.
On top of her many challenges as a full-time senior working royal, bringing up three lovely children, Kate has a special skill.
Whenever Kensington Palace shares photos to celebrate the Cambridges’ milestones, such as birthdays, it is likely the image was taken by Kate herself. This is especially so relating to her three young children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Duchess of Cambridge, designated royal photographer
However, besides her own brood, it turns out the Duchess is also a designated photographer for the Royal Family as a whole. Besides the heartwarming photo of the Queen and Prince Philip with seven great-grandchildren, there have been more. One image showed the royals relaxing on a summer break in Scotland.
Among the images shared by the Royal Family was one of Mike Tindall’s eldest daughter Mia with Prince Philip. The photo shows the Duke of Edinburgh seated on the porch of a log cabin. The prince slices food while enjoying a beer, as his great-granddaughter Mia chats away. Tindall credited his cousin-in-law, Kate, as the photographer on his Instagram post.
If this isn’t enough, Kate has also been involved in a photography competition. In May last year, the Duchess launched the “Hold Still” photography competition. She encouraged members of the public to photographically document their lives in lockdown. The competition attracted 31,000 entries taken by photographers of all ages. The final 100 images were later chosen to appear n a digital exhibition across the UK.
The winning images were also published in a book that is currently on sale. The proceeds are shared between the mental health charity Mind and the National Portrait Gallery, of which Kate is a patron.
Kate Middleton is an ‘amazing photographer’
Earlier this month, Matt Porteous, the photographer behind several official portraits of the Cambridges, spoke to HELLO!. He said, “Catherine is an amazing photographer.” Porteous added that they have both shared tips on location and chatted about “light, settings and styles.”
According to Matt, Kate has an amazing eye for photos and will always point other photographers in the right direction for lighting and backdrops. He said the Duchess makes his life easy as she has an “incredible eye for style.”
