Amid the controversy over Oprah Winfrey’s interview of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, Markle was unable to attend the funeral of Prince Philip. The Royal line was that her physician recommended against it, but another reason was later leaked to the press. A source said that Meghan didn’t want to be the “center of attention” at the funeral. However, despite not being there, Markle did ensure she played a role in the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral. Also, she and little Archie watched the funeral on live stream video.
Details of Meghan Markle’s tribute to Prince Philip
While not attending, the pregnant Meghan Markle did make a touching tribute to Prince Philip. The former Suits star included a handwritten note with the couple’s wreath. The couple’s floral wreath tribute was laid at St George’s Chapel at the funeral on Saturday.
According to The Telegraph, a source close to Meghan and Harry has leaked details of the wreath to British tabloids. According to the insider, the Sussexes personally chose the arrangement for the colorful wreath and each flower has a special meaning. One was the Acanthus mollis, which is the national flower of Philip’s homeland Greece. Another was Eryngium, which gives a nod to the late Princes’ much-loved Royal Marines.

Other flowers included rosemary to signify remembrance and campanula for gratitude and everlasting love. Lavender was added to the wreath to represent devotion, while roses were placed to honor June, the birth month of Prince Philip.
Willow Crossley, a Cotswold florist known for her natural arrangements, designed and handmade the wreath. Crossley was also responsible for floral decorations at Frogmore Cottage for the Sussexes’ May 2018 wedding. She later made the floral arrangements for Archie’s christening. No details are available relating to the content of the hand-written note included in the couple’s wreath.
Other royal wreaths were laid at the funeral
Meghan and Harry’s wreath was one of several touching wreaths laid beside Prince Philip’s coffin at the funeral. However, other members of the royal family have kept the details of their floral tributes to Prince Philip private.
As mentioned previously the official story was that Markle couldn’t attend the funeral due to her ongoing pregnancy. However, later media stories said that she didn’t want to be the “center of attention” at the sad affair. While not confirmed as a fact, her words upset many royal fans. They believe that while it is true her attendance would have caused drama, reports say she should have kept these words to herself.
While Meghan Markle couldn’t attend the funeral, she and their son Archie reportedly watched the service on a live video stream at home.
Following the funeral, speculation was rife as to whether Prince Harry will remain in the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday. However, the Duke of Sussex will reportedly fly home on Monday.
