Since Oprah Winfrey interviewed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the headlines have been full of criticism against the former royals. However, one person is truly standing up for Meghan and Harry. Hairstylist George Northwood was behind Meghan Markle’s most iconic looks while she was a working royal. He said how wonderful it was to work with her and Harry.
Meghan Markle’s hairstylist speaks up
While Meghan Markle was a senior member of the Royal Family, she was known for her amazing hairstyles. These included an iconic messy bun, an undone chignon look, loose waves and a sleek ponytail. The mastermind behind her look was hairstylist George Northwood.
Northwood first spoke up about working with Meghan and Harry following their departure from royal life and the UK. He took to Instagram to reveal what it was like to work with the couple behind the scenes. This included their royal tour to Australia, New Zealand, Tonga and Fiji in 2018.
According to the Mirror, Northwood has a hair salon in Fitzrovia and wrote that it was a “lot of fun” to work with Markle. He also admitted he had learned a lot from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over the past two years.
In his post, Northwood wrote that he has enjoyed every minute of “collaborating with this amazing couple.” He mentioned how Meghan and Harry champion small businesses. However, they have also taught him so much about diversity, equality and the “importance of good mental health.”
George Northwood has only nice things to say about Meghan
At around the same time, Northwood spoke to British Vogue about what it was like to work with Meghan. The hairstylist had nothing but nice things to say about the Duchess. He said how nervous he initially was to meet her, but says that was all for nothing as they “hit it off straight away.” Northwood said they “immediately spoke the same language,” and she was just like his “California girl clients.”
The hairstylist went on to say how close they became during the time he worked with Meghan. During the three-week tour to Australia, New Zealand and Tonga, a lot of the time it was just him and her. As Harry and Meghan had “back-to-back engagements,” this meant a lot of different looks. With such a full-on schedule, they became very close.
Meghan Markle’s need to look approachable
Northwood spoke of Meghan as always wanting to ensure she looked “approachable” to the general public. He said the way she approaches things is how an “everyday woman” would approach things. Northwood said she has a real sense of style and wanted to look approachable even though she was a “princess.” The hairstylist described Meghan as a “very modern princess,” one people can relate to and aspire to and her hair “just fell into that.”
Scrolling through Northwood’s Instagram account, it is clear he has worked with a number of celebrities, including actress Gwyneth Paltrow. However, it sounds like Meghan Markle was one of his favorite clients.
