Following the explosive interview between Oprah Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Buckingham Palace is making changes. In the interview, Meghan and Harry claim that they were the target of racist comments. The issue related to what color their son, Archie would be when he was born. The palace is considering appointing a “diversity chief” following the claim.
Buckingham Palace considers the appointment of a diversity chief
CBS’s Oprah with Meghan and Harry brought many controversial subjects to the surface, including allegations of racism. The Duke and Duchess claimed during the interview that a member of the family made a racist comment about their son, Archie. The Duke and Duchess did say that the comment was not made by Queen Elizabeth or Prince Philip. Despite this, one member of the household did allegedly wonder what color the baby would be.
A Royal source has said that Buckingham Palace is considering the appointment of a diversity chief. In fact, the palace believes more needs to be done to address the important issue. The new proposals reportedly have the “full support” of the Royal Family. The appointment aims to seek independent views to help assess and improve representation throughout the royal household.

The Royal source said the palace is concerned over the claims raised in the interview. In fact, they said they will be addressed. However, the work being undertaken on diversity pre-dates the couple’s interview. Despite this, it is believed that Harry and Meghan’s comments will be taken as part of the process.
Buckingham Palace takes the issue seriously
The royal source explained that this is an issue that has been taken very seriously across the Royal households. They explained that the palace has “the policies, the procedures, and programs in place.” However, they haven’t seen the progress they would like and do accept that more needs to be done. The source added that the palace can always improve in these matters.
“Therefore, we are not afraid to look at new ways of approaching it. The work to do this has been underway for some time now and comes with the full support of the family,” they said.
The potential appointment of a diversity chief
According to a report by Sky News, the potential appointment of a diversity chief is something that has to be considered. However, the palace source said it is too early for any firm plans to be announced. They did say, however, that the palace is listening, learning, and wants to get this right.
Besides the race issue, the source said the work to improve diversity will also include LGBTQ issues and disability representation. If the claims of racism are true, it is good to note that the palace is addressing the issue. Meanwhile, investigations continue into claims that Meghan Markle had bullied royal aides.
