IMPACT Wrestling 3/16: Rating and Ranking Every Match

Robby Steven

IMPACT Wrestling is just days removed from their Sacrifice special that crowded new tag team champions in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s FinJuice. Rich Swann is now the unified IMPACT Wrestling World Champion who will face AEW Champion Kenny Omega at the Rebellion PPV next month.

Every match on IMPACT Wrestling will include highlights, what the storyline progression is, and a final analysis. Each match will be given a star rating and be ranked from worst to best.

Matches Ranked from Worst to Best

5) Rohit Raju d. Shera
Highlights: Shera used his power early to get an advantage, but Rohit Raju was able to capitalize on his speed. Shera continued to cut Raju off, including getting a two-count after a chokeslam. Raju was able to sneak away with a win after putting his feet on the ropes during a roll-up.

Storyline Progression: The former tag team partners implodes on last week’s IMPACT Wrestling and settled things in the ring.

Final Analysis: Not much to see here a Rohit Raju gets a win over his now former tag team partner. Take a Pass. *

Tag Title Turmoil

4) FinJuice (Juice Robinson & David Finlay) d. XXL (Larry D and Acey Romero)
Highlights: Basically an extended squash with FinJuice getting the win after an Acid Drop by Finally on Larry D.

Storyline Progression: FinJuice won the IMPACT Wrestling Tag Team Titles last weekend at Sacrifice. This was a non-title match to get a win under the belts for FinJuice while getting XXXL some TV time. After the match, The Good Brothers appear to challenge FinJuice who then tell them to get in line.

Final Analysis: Not much of a match as it was used to further the story between FinJuice and The Good Brothers. Take a Pass. *1/2.

IMPACT Wrestling: Violent by Design

3) Rhino d. Jame Something
Highlights: Violent by Design distract Jake Something early in the match allowing Rhino to get the win with a spear. After the match, James Storm and Chris Sabin run to the ring but they are beaten down by Violent by Design.

Storyline Progression: Eric Young and his Violent by Design stable are getting a big push. It looks to be setting up a 6-man tag match at the next IMPACT Plus special Hardcore Justice in April.

Final Analysis: I’m not sure jobbing out Jake Something to Rhino so easily is the best move, but time will tell what the payoff is. Too short to rate but Skim It due to the beatdown. [NR]

12-Knockouts Tag Team Match

2) Jordynne Grace, Jazz, ODB, Havok, Nevaeh, and Alisha d. Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo, Fire ‘N Flava, Kimber Lee, Susan, and Tenille Dashwood
Highlights: Most of the women get the opportunity to get a shine as the action spills to the outside of the ring. With only Tasha Steelz and Jordynne Grace inside the ring, they both dive to the floor to take out the crowd. Jazz gets the win for her team with an STF on Kimber.

Storyline Progression: The Knockouts division in IMPACT Wrestling is expanding and this was a good way to get everyone involved in one segment.

Final Analysis: Fun little multi-woman tag team match that crammed the Knockouts into one match without feeling too forced. Skim It. **1/2

IMPACT Wrestling: Main Event

1) Sami Callihan d. Trey Miguel
Highlights: Sami Callihan attacks Trey Miguel early on as the action spills ot the entrance ramp. Miguel carries Callihan back to ringside but is caught in a Boston Crab on the floor. Callihan works over Miguel’s leg, including using a Boston Crab from the second rope. Miguel attempts to make his comeback but is unable to capitalize due to his weak knee. Miguel is able to kick out of several high-impact moves, including a rope-assisted neckbreaker and a powerbomb. Despite his best efforts, Miguel is caught in a packaged piledriver giving Callihan the win.

Storyline Progression: In recent weeks, Sami Callihan has been testing Trey Miguel by confronting him after all his matches.

Final Analysis: Good main event as Trey Miguel sold his injured leg and knee which really helped tell the story. Sami Callihan getting the win was the right call as he’s been in a bit of a slump lately. Worth a Watch. ***3/4
