The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton makes a moving tribute by laying daffodils at Sarah Everard’s vigil at Clapham Common. The 33-year-old woman was kidnapped and murdered earlier this month while walking home at night. The murder sends shockwaves through the UK. Moreover, it causes an outcry from women reflecting on and sharing their feelings of walking alone.
Kate Middleton leaves tribute for Sarah Everard
On Saturday, media cameras picked up the Duchess of Cambridge laying daffodils at a memorial at the bandstand in Clapham Common, southwest London. Kate Middleton stood before the many flowers in what was an unannounced and low-key solo visit. She read some of the notes left in tribute, before leaving her own bouquet of daffodils, picked fresh in the Kensington Palace garden.

Town & Country quotes a Royal source as saying Kate wanted to personally pay her respects. The source said that Kate remembers what it felt like walking around London at night prior to her marriage. Middleton was wearing a casual, dark green jacket and black trousers at the scene. However, some Twitter users did spot that Kate was notably not wearing a mask at the vigil.
Every public appearance of late she wears a mask. But today she doesn’t? She has team of handlers and o one supplied her with a mask? Call me cynical but would be hard to gain that positive PR and be recognised in a crowd if she was wearing a mask huh 🤔

Vigils are planned across the UK for the murdered woman. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, people are urged to light a candle in her memory from their homes.
Sarah Everard’s murderer caught
Police in London tracked down the murderer of Sarah Everard. Wayne Couzens, 48, a serving Metropolitan Police Officer, appeared in court and charged with Everard’s kidnapping and murder. Couzens is currently being held in custody until his next court appearance on March 16.
Sarah’s murder shocked the UK, leading to many women taking to social media. Each shares their own experiences of being harassed in public and their fears of walking alone in the dark.
While Kate’s appearance at the vigil was a personal one, some British tabloids are seeing conspiracies in her actions. The Telegraph noted that the royal family often lays flowers or wreaths in remembrance of the dead. However, they report that this is normally carried out in a public capacity. They report that for the wife of a future king to do so privately, without a personal connection to the victim is almost unprecedented.
Knock at PM Boris Johnson?
That tabloid believes Kate’s actions might be a knock at Boris Johnson. The Prime Minister often reminds the public that he has “cut the murder rate by 50 percent.” He claims that knife crime has gone down during his tenure. The Telegraph believes that Kate Middleton’s private visit to Clapham Common is her way of telling him that he has unfinished business.
Most media outlets, however, believe that Kate’s actions were those of a concerned woman, paying tribute to another woman taken before her time.
