Previously, Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star Wendell Pierce criticized what he dubbed her “insignificant” interview with Oprah Winfrey. However, her on-screen dad has now backtracked on his comments to give his true thoughts on Oprah with Meghan and Harry. Pierce played the role of Robert Zane on the popular show.
Wendell Pierce clarifies thoughts on Meghan Markle interview
Previously, Wendell Pierce had criticized Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, deeming it “insignificant.” However, the actor now wants to clear the air to give his true thoughts on the controversial interview with Meghan and Harry.
On March 9, Pierce told LBC that it was “insensitive and offensive that we are all complicit in this sort of Palace gossip.” Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said, “in the midst of so much death, I think it is insignificant.”
Wendell Pierce clears the air with Meghan
On Wednesday, March 10, Wendell sought to clear the air on the subject. He explained that he meant no ill will toward the Duchess of Sussex. He tweeted that he had discovered his words were being used as an attack. Wendell wrote, “Well done British Press. Clarity: The British monarchy is archaic in my American eyes. If slavery, colonialism, and apartheid didn’t educate you that they are racist, you failed history.”
I just discovered my words are being used as an attack. Well done British Press. Clarity: The British monarchy is archaic in my American eyes. If slavery, colonialism and apartheid didn’t educate you that they are racist, you failed history.

Pierce explained that he did get in touch with Markle to offer his support. He said he was fortunate to tell Meghan personally that he wishes her all the best.
Wendell said, “Predicting this hellacious maelstrom” he also told her she would always have a friend in him. He added that the fact he had no interest in the interview doesn’t change that. “As I told Meghan, I support her and wish her all the best,” he added.
In no way am I insensitive to suicide. Unfortunately my family has suffered the pain of losing someone to suicide. I never was interviewed by the Daily Mail and their story manipulated my words in a radio interview. As I told Meghan, I support her and wish her all the best.

As noted by E! Online, his final tweet stressed that he is in no way insensitive to suicide. Pierce said unfortunately, his family has suffered the pain of losing someone to suicide.
Meghan Markle opened up to Oprah on suicidal thoughts
Pierce’s tweet references a moment in the interview when Markle opened up to Winfrey about contemplating suicide two years ago. Meghan said she was ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to admit it to Harry. This was especially so, as she knows how much loss the prince had suffered in his life.
However, Markle said she knew that if she didn’t say it, then she would do it. She confessed that she just didn’t want to be alive anymore. Meghan said it was “clear and real and frightening and constant thought.”
Oprah with Meghan and Harry is still available for viewing on CBS.com for the next 30 days.
