Donald Trump Wants The GOP To Stop Using His Name

Donald Trump might be out of the White House, but it’s become clear he’s still quite popular. In fact, he might be the most popular member of the GOP among Republican voters.

The former president knows this. In fact, after his CPAC speech he’s reiterated his presence with authority. However, anyone who thought Trump might work with the GOP to capitalize on his popularity was apparently mistaken.

Earlier this week, the former reality television personality filed a cease and desist order against the Republican party.

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump sent out several cease-and-desist letters Friday. Those letters went to the three largest fundraising entities for the Republican Party. The RNC, NRCC and NRSC were all targeted for using Trump’s name and likeness on fundraising emails and merchandise, a Trump adviser told Politico.

At the heart of the issue seems to be who is using his name and why. Trump is reportedly furious the NRCC and NRSC especially are using his NIL rights. In essence, these organizations are funding the campaigns of people who voted to impeach or convict him. The former president wants more control over who and how his name and likeness rights are used.

The most recent RNC fundraising campaign even claimed to be aimed at “thanking” Trump.

Donald Trump Not Happy About NIL

On Friday, the RNC sent out two emails asking supporters to donate as a way to add their name to a “thank you” card for Trump.

“President Trump will ALWAYS stand up for the American People, and I just thought of the perfect way for you to show that you support him!” the email states.

“As one of President Trump’s MOST LOYAL supporters, I think that YOU, deserve the great honor of adding your name to the Official Trump ‘Thank You’ Card.”

Several hours later, the RNC sent another call for money. That second email included a warning that time was running out for donors to get their names on the card.

Impossible Not To Mention Him

While none of the groups mentioned in the letter gave an official comment, some insiders said they cannot stop. Those insiders said Trump is simply too popular. His name helps raise money more than anyone else.

Those insiders added that if Trump really wants to flip congress, he needs to drop this issue. However, the former president’s people see it quite a bit differently.

“President Trump remains committed to the Republican Party and electing America First conservatives,” one adviser told Politico. “But that doesn’t give anyone – friend or foe – permission to use his likeness without explicit approval.”

As the issue is so new, it’s impossible to know if the two parties might work out a deal.
