Prince Philip Undergoes ‘Successful Procedure’ For Pre-Existing Heart Condition, Staying In Hospital

Prince Philip was admitted to King Edward VII’s Hospital on February 16. This was purely a precautionary measure after feeling unwell with an infection. On Wednesday, the Duke of Edinburgh was moved to St Bartholomew’s Hospital. At that hospital, the prince underwent a successful procedure for his pre-existing heart condition. While the procedure was successful, the Duke of Edinburgh, 99, remains in hospital under care.

Prince Philip under rest and recuperation

As noted by The Guardian, Monday saw Prince Philip moved by ambulance to St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London. There, he was to undergo tests for his pre-existing heart condition. The Duke received treatment at Barts Heart Centre in the hospital. Meanwhile, the center is considered to be Europe’s largest specialized cardiovascular service.

According to Buckingham Palace, Prince Philip, who turns 100 in June, will remain in St Bartholomew’s Hospital for a number of days. On that note, he will receive ongoing treatment while resting and recuperating. Meanwhile, the Duke has spent a total of 16 days in the hospital, which is his longest ever stay.

Buckingham Palace released a statement on Thursday about Prince Philip’s stay in St Bartholomew’s Hospital. They wrote that on Wednesday, the Duke of Edinburgh underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition. The statement said that His Royal Highness will remain in the hospital for “treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

During Philip’s stay, his eldest son, Prince Charles, made a 200-mile round-trip to visit him and stayed with him for around 30 minutes. On Wednesday, the Duchess of Cornwall said Philip was improving slightly. Charles’ wife said this was very good news and that they are keeping their fingers crossed.

Meghan and Harry controversy

The news of Prince Philip came hours after the second teaser for Meghan and Harry’s controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey was released. In the trailer, Meghan blamed “The Firm” (popular shorthand for the institution of the Royal Family) for playing a role in “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and Harry. At one point in the trailer, Winfrey responds to Meghan, saying, “almost unsurvivable sounds like there was a breaking point.”

The interview, which will air on CBS, promises “shocking things.” On top of this, Oprah has already warned that there is no subject that is off-limits. Meanwhile, Prince Harry refers to the untimely death of his mother, Princess Diana. He says, “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.”

Oprah With Meghan And Harry will air on CBS on March 7, 2021.

In the meantime, more controversy reigns after The Times reported that Meghan Markle was accused of bullying staff at Kensington Palace. While the Duchess of Sussex denies this, the headlines can only further upset the balance in the royal family.

We wish Prince Philip a speedy and complete recovery and hope that he will be home with Queen Elizabeth soon.
