WWE Smackdown 2/19: Rating and Ranking Every Match

Robby Steven

Just days away from the Elimination Chamber, WWE Smackdown delivers a preview of the upcoming PPV. The main event for Friday Night Smackdown is a big 6-man tag team match involving all of the men involved in the chamber match.

Each match on WWE Smackdown will be given a brief review and analysis. Then each match will be given a rating and be ranked from worst to best.

Matches Ranked from Worst to Best

5) Natalya & Tamina defeated The Riott Squad
Tamina starts off with Liv Morgan and easily uses her power to overwhelm her. Tag into Natalya who doubles down on the offense until Morgan is able to squirm away and make the tag. Ruby Riott unloads on Natalya in the corner before a double team jawbreaker with Morgan gets two. Billie Kay runs down to the ring which causes a distraction for the Riott Squad. Riott attempts a crossbody but is caught in a slam by Tamina for the win on WWE Smackdown.

Match Analysis: The Billy Kay/Riott Squad continues but still shows nothing of interest. Take a Pass. *

WWE Smackdown: Mysterio beatdown

4) Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio defeated Otis & Chad Gable
Dominik gets the best of Chad Gable as both men make tags. Otis rushes and powers Rey Mysterio to the mat before hitting a big splash. The referee quickly calls for the bell and DQ for Gable failing to leave the ring. Gable moves Rey closer to the corner and Otis connects on a big second rope splash.

Match Analysis: Well this ended quickly and out of nowhere. Odd decision to turn Otis and Gable heel, but I guess we’ll see where it leads on WWE Smackdown. Take a Pass. *

Jax’s surprise

3) Sahsa Banks, Bianca Belair, & Reginald defeated Bayley, Shayna Baszler, and Nia Jax
The heel side gets the advantage quickly with Shayna Baszler starting things off with her power. They rotate tags until Baszler returns to the ring and works over Sasha Banks’ leg. Nia Jax tags in but gets hit with a kick from Banks who tags in Reginald. Jax locks up with Reginald who tosses him easily into the corner followed by a shoulder block. Jax gets distracted on the outside but catches Reginald attempting a spin kick. Banks and Belair then rush in and dropkick Jax and Reginald gets the three count.

Match Analysis: Fun enough match but it feels like the entire Women’s title on WWE Smackdown is rooted in humor. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when they break Banks/Belair away from the comedy and have them more focused. Not much to see her though. Take a Pass. *1/2

Crews’ revenge

2) Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Apollo Crews
Big E is on commentary while sitting on a couch and icing his feet. Nakamura quickly gets the upper hand with several strikes and a knee for a two-count. Apollo Crews gets the advantage after a big dropkick and then a baseball slide to the outside. Crews tosses Nakamura onto Big E as we cut to commercial. Back from the break and Crews maintains control, getting another two-count after a suplex. Nakamura makes a comeback after Crews is hung up in the ropes. Rope German suplex gets a two but Crews perks up quickly with a spinebuster. Despite Crews’ comeback, Nakamura gets the three-count following a quick rolling cradle. After the match, Crews beats down Nakamura and Big E.

Match Analysis: Big E is finally getting a single run and Apollo Crews is a good choice as his first opponent on WWE Smackdown. They both work well together and Crews is showing a mean streak as a heel. Seeing Nakamura get a win, even if it doesn’t amount to much, is always fun. Worth a Watch. **3/4

WWE Smackdown: Main Event

1) Daniel Bryan, Cesaro & Kevin Owens defeated Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and King Corbin
Edge joins the commentary booth as he mulls over who he’ll challenge at Wrestlemania. Corbin avoids Cesaro as he quickly tags to Sami Zayn. A short exchange brings Daniel Bryan into the ring as Zayn gets a cheap shot in before taking control. Corbin tags in and works out Bryan as he slaps Zayn on the chest for a tag. Cesaro with a hot tag as he works over Zayn with several corner uppercuts. Big Swing to Zayn before a slingshot to the corner leads to a tag to Corbin. Big Swing to Corbin as we get a commercial break.

Cesaro continues with another big swing as we return from the break. The action spills to the outside as Jey Uso pulls Cesaro out and throws him onto the announce table. Corbin works out Cesaro in the ring as Paul Heyman joins the commentary booth along with Edge. The heel side rotates tags until Cesaro hits a flying elbow on Corbin and tags to Bryan. Bryan hits a top rope hurricanrana on Zayne from the top rope. Kevin Owens follows with a cannonball from the apron to the floor on Uso. Back inside and Bryan taps out Zayn with the Yes Lock. After the match, every man exchanges finishers before Edge runs in and hits a speak on Uso. Out of nowhere Roman Reigns storms the ring and spears Edge.

Match Analysis: Fun main event leading into the Elimination Chamber with the mystery of Edge’s decision hanging in the balance. Worth a Watch. ***1/4
