The defending champions Los Angeles Lakers have been putting on a show early in the season. It appears nobody is stopping them when LeBron James and Anthony Davis are on the floor. The Lakers recently faced the Houston Rockets. The game was very competitive right from the start. Until late in the first quarter, things get heated between Lakers’ Markieff Morris and Rockets’ DeMarcus Cousins. Apparently, Cousins and Morris were teammates during the Lakers’ championship run. However, it appears that the two never considered each other as teammates.
NBA: Markieff Morris & DeMarcus Cousins Get Physical
During the first quarter with only 2 minutes left, Los Angeles Lakers power forward Markieff Morris elbowed Rockets rookie Jae’Sean Tate, causing him to hit the floor hard. It appears that DeMarcus Cousins didn’t like what Morris did as he elbowed him back, causing him to fall as well. After that, Morris went charging to Cousins and players had to stop him. Cousins walked away to the bench while being chased by Morris. The two had a long exchange of words before players finally calmed them down. Morris was ejected in the game with only 3 minutes of playing.
Meanwhile, Cousins was ejected early in the second quarter for a Flagrant 2 foul on LeBron James. Cousins apologized to James, showing that he didn’t mean to hit him with a hard foul. Cousins is one of the most physical players in the league today. His physicality often leads to a technical foul. Cousins has been ejected twice over the Rockets’ last four games.
Cousins Was Cut To Make Room For Morris
DeMarcus Cousins didn’t play a single game during the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship run last year. He was rehabbing from a torn ACL and he wasn’t able to join the Lakers in the Bubble. However, former Lakers star Danny Green believes that Cousins should still receive a championship ring without playing. During an interview, Green said, “DeMarcus was there rehabbing all year, the only time he wasn’t with us was in the bubble.” He also said, “The guys that have been with us on the roster and on the team, I think they all deserve an opportunity to get a ring because they were part of the team.” Unfortunately, the Lakers had to cut off Cousins to make room for Markieff Morris. Fans believe that it’s one of the main reasons why Cousins and Morris didn’t like each other.
Anthony Davis Helps Lakers Defeat The Rockets
Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis puts on a show against the Houston Rockets. He scored 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist. The Lakers also forced the Rockets to miss 20 of their 25 three-point attempts. LeBron James also scored 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in 30 minutes of playing. Meanwhile, James Harden scored 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists with 38 minutes of playing. It also appears that Harden is no longer interested in getting traded. Instead, he seems to focus more on his teammates.
The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Houston Rockets once again on January 13, 2021.
