Kate Middleton Planning Small Birthday Party Amid Pandemic

Kate Middleton normally plans a bash worthy of the Royal Family for her birthday. This year, things are tamped down quite a bit.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Middleton is following the advice of experts. In other words, there will be no massive celebration this year.

Saturday marks the royal’s 39th birthday. While she isn’t having dozens of friends come party the day away, she’ll still be surrounded by those she loves most. Kate will spend the day with her husband and three children.

The royal family of five is isolating at their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk as the U.K. is under its third major lockdown. A resurgence in the country of the COVID-19 pandemic is to blame. The restrictions mean it’ll be a very different birthday weekend for Middleton.

Normally, she at least gets to celebrate with her mother and father. However, their own isolation makes that impossible in 2021.

People reports the weekend festivities are in the hands of husband, William. The publication says he’s likely to enlist the help of the couple’s children, Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2 to bake a birthday cake.

Kate Middleton And Her Quiet B-Day

William recently said that he’s been trying his hand at baking during the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns.  He joked about the mayhem that can take place in the kitchen, revealing there’s usually an “explosion of flour and chocolate everywhere” when the children are let loose. It stands to reason that he’ll do most of the cleaning up, since it is his wife’s birthday.

While Middleton is sure to enjoy her big day with her family, some close to her make it clear she’s going to miss her friends.

Last year, William’s lifelong friend Tom van Straubenzee and his wife Lucy Lanigan-O’Keeffe, James Meade and his wife Laura, neighbor and longtime pal Sophie Snuggs – who is one of Charlotte’s godparents – and her husband Robert all helped celebrate the big day.

In the past, the royal couple usually set aside an entire weekend with their friends. They celebrate Middleton’s birthday with shooting and other country pursuits. Several times, Queen Elizabeth hosted them at Sandringham House for dinner, too.

Big Celebrations, Just Not In Scope

2021 is going to be a big year for the royal couple, even outside of Kate Middleton’s last birthday before she hits 40. The couple marks their 10th wedding anniversary in April. Then they’ll look ahead to Queen Elizabeth’s 95th birthday and Prince Philip’s 100th birthday celebration in June.

There are some sad anniversaries coming later this year as well. In July, Middleton and Prince William will mark what would have been the 60th birthday of William’s late mother Princess Diana.  Later that month it will be 40 years since her marriage to Prince Charles.
