Capitol Riots ‘Inside Job’ Rumors Spread Online

While the general public is trying to figure out why law enforcement’s reaction to Wednesday’s Capitol riots were so tame, some are starting to claim there were some police officers cooperating with the terrorists. The talk that at least some of the riot might have been an inside job just rumors so far. But at least one US Congressman finds the situation more than a little odd.

Among those wanting answers is House Majority Whip James Clyburn. In a recent interview with Sirius XM, Clyburn talked about how some of the terrorists found his office, despite the fact that it wasn’t marked.

Clyburn said if they were looking for him, they would have gone to an office in Statuary Hall that has his name on it. Instead, the rioters went to the office where he does most of his work, that is unmarked. Clyburn added that once they got there, the people taking place in the Capitol riots started harassing his staff. They knew right where they were supposed to go.

“They went where you won’t find my name, but they found where I was supposed to be,” Clyburn said. “So something else was going on untoward here.”

Capital Riots Aided By Police?

Clyburn might be the loudest voice from Congress making the accusation, but he’s not the only one. CNN analyst Asha Rangappa posted on Twitter that she also thinks the situation is odd.

To be clear, she didn’t allege the police were helping. She did allege there’s more going on behind the scenes in the wake of the Capitol riots than the public knows.

“The fact that Republicans are suddenly being vocal about Trump needing to go tells me that there is stuff coming out behind the scenes that is really really bad and worse than we think,” Rangappa wrote.

Videos Look Bad

Those who are pushing rumors online of an “inside” job have also pointed to videos that raised eyebrows. It’s hard to tell if some of them were cut or edited to push a certain narrative. However, there are several that seem to show officers allowed rioters to walk by them, into and out of the capitol unmolested.

Another analyst, Kyle Griffin reported on Saturday night that a Republican Attorney General’s Association sent out an email asking people to “march on the Capitol” almost exactly 24 hours before the riot started.

Griffin didn’t allege that this meant there was cooperation with law enforcement. He did hint that there was some coordination between Republican officials and the rioters.

At the moment, allegations and odd coincidences are all that’s on offer.  Police reaction confused some people. They were especially confused considering warnings that the Capitol riots were going to happen. Investigations are said to be starting soon. If there was someone working with the rioters, they’re likely to be found out.

Until then, it’s nothing but internet rumors.
