Minecraft Speedrunner Dream’s World Record Removed After Cheating

2020 might be one of the best years for Minecraft YouTuber, Dream. Apparently, Dream quickly rose to fame for his Minecraft speedrun gameplays. He managed to gain 12 million subscribers between January and November last year alone. Dream currently has 15.4 million subscribers, making him one of the most popular Minecraft gaming channels today. Unfortunately, Dream faced criticisms after officials claimed that he cheated in one of his speedruns.

Minecraft speedrunner Dream has been facing a lot of controversies recently. The controversy revolves around his record-breaking speedrun. Apparently, Dream was accused of using a mod in his record-breaking speedrun. The issue has been around for months and fans have seen back-and-forth arguments from Dream and the officials. Now, officials finally removed Dream’s record in the leaderboards. Dream’s record-breaking Minecraft speedrun was monitored by a team in Speedrun. A website that officiates speedrun gameplays from players around the world.

According to investigations, Dream used a mod to get higher drops. It means that monsters in the game will drop more items than their usual drops, giving players the ability to progress much faster in the game. Dream tried to defend himself from the accusations. In a social media post, he said, “I provided everything the mods ever asked for to them, so this is false. I also never said that I “delete them frequently”, and Geosquare has admitted this and apologized.”

Speedrunning is one of the most popular activities that video game streamers love to do. Its goal is to finish the game as quickly as possible by avoiding almost all secondary activities within the game. One of the most popular games to speedrun is Minecraft as it only requires a few items to reach the final boss and beat the game. There are also leaderboards on the Speedrun website. Apparently, Dream’s Minecraft speedrun was supposed to be the fastest of all time. However, a lot of fans got disappointed after officials claimed that he was using mods.

Minecraft Keeps Getting Better Despite Its Age

Despite its age, Minecraft is one of the most popular games today. The game also received a major update last year called the Nether update, which features new endgame contents. A lot of popular YouTubers also plays the game. One of which is PewDiePie, who currently has 108 million subscribers. Fans are also hoping that Mojang Studios will release a next-gen edition for the game. A number of Minecraft spin-offs were also released throughout the years. One of which is Minecraft: Story Mode, a narrative and player choice-driven game where the mining mechanics are no longer present.
