Two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant is considered one of the best players in the league today. Unfortunately, he suffered an Achilles injury in Game 1 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Durant decided to leave the Golden State Warriors as a free agent after suffering a torn Achilles. He signed with the Brooklyn Nets but was unable to play for an entire season due to his injury. After 552 days of absence from the basketball court, Durant finally returned with his first game with the Nets.

Kevin Durant did not disappoint with his first game after sitting out for 552 days. He scored his first two points with a slamdunk, showing he still got his intense athleticism. Durant puts on a show during the first quarter against the Washington Wizards. Unfortunately for the Wizards, Russell Westbrook had to sit out for the entire game. This gave Durant the opportunity to dominate and showcase what he’s capable of despite recovering from a devastating injury. Durant finished the game with 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Meanwhile, his partner Kyrie Irving also puts on a remarkable performance with his first game after suffering from a right shoulder injury.
Kyrie Irving Puts On A Show
Kyrie Irving fuels the hype of Kevin Durant’s return with his incredible performance with the Brooklyn Nets. He showcased his signature crossovers and stepbacks. He also scored multiple times while being heavily guarded. Kyrie finished the game with 18 points, 1 rebound, and 4 assists. Kyrie also showed good chemistry with Durant by throwing him a fullcourt pass which led to an easy score. The Brooklyn Nets defeated the Washington Wizards with a score of 119-114. With Irving’s right shoulder no longer an issue, fans think that the Irving-Durant duo is ready to dominate the league.
NBA: Brooklyn Nets Sends A Strong Message
The Brooklyn Nets’ first win against the Washington Wizards seems to show that they’re going to be a very dangerous team. Three-time NBA Champion Dwyane Wade shared his thoughts about the players returning to the game. According to him, “Seeing Steph, KD and Kyrie back hooping feels right! Also Brooklyn is about to be a problem.” It’s no question that Kyrie is one of the best point guards in the league today. Pairing him with Durant instantly makes them a contender. Nets Head Coach Steve Nash also shared his excitement on Durant’s return. According to him, “It’s another thing to come back and look as explosive and mobile and skillful as he has after a long layoff. I’m incredibly proud of him.”
The NBA 2020-21 season will begin on Tuesday, December 22.
