The 2020 NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers have been making the biggest moves during this year’s free agency. Despite letting go of some of their most athletic players such as Dwight Howard, JaVale McGee, and Rajon Rondo, the Lakers are still looking ready to defend their title. According to Lakers shooting guard, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, one player shined the most during their practice, and that is Marc Gasol.
NBA: Marc Gasol Looking Ready
The Los Angeles Lakers recently went headlines after signing Marc Gasol in a two-year deal. Gasol also expressed his excitement online by saying that he’s “Happy as hell” to play with LeBron James. Now, Gasol is showing that the Lakers did a good decision by signing him. According to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, “He’s just been playing how he plays, bringing that talent to the organization and I think he fits perfectly. He’s basically doing the same as JaVale and Dwight, but a little more.”
Gasol was also seen hitting threes and mid-range shots during their practice, something that Howard and McGee rarely do. Kentavious ended his comments on Gasol by saying, “He’s mixing it up a lot and he’s showing us a little bit of everything. Right now, he’s been amazing.” Gasol attempted 1,009 3-pointers over his last four seasons and hit 36.5% of them. However, his offense is just a cherry on top for the Lakers. Gasol’s defensive mindset is one of the main reasons why the Lakers signed him. Apparently, he won the 2012-2013 Defensive Player of the Year, showing that he’s a very reliable player on defense.
Lakers Are Highly Expected For A Back-To-Back Championship
With the Los Angeles Lakers signing former DOPY Marc Gasol, fans are expecting a back-to-back championship. There are also reports stating that Montrezl Harrell impressed his teammates during practice. Harrell won this year’s Sixth Man of the Year award. He averaged 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks last season. The Lakers also released a sneak peek video inside their training camp, and everyone seems to build high chemistry. Will the healthy Lakers win their 18th championship next season?
NBA: Marc Responds To LeBron’s Friendly Debate About Stealing His 2012-2013 DPOY Award
Four-time NBA Champion LeBron James recently made a friendly debate about Marc Gasol stealing his supposed 2012-2013 Defensive Player of the Year award. According to James, he was supposed to win both MVP and DPOY that year but ended up winning only the MVP. Gasol replied to James’ friendly debate by saying, “We can talk over it with some wine if he wants to. If it’s anybody’s trophy, I believe that trophy is for the Grizzlies. The team that deserved to have that trophy was the Grizzlies.” Gasol also said that the only player that could claim the 2012-2013 DPOY award from him was his Grizzlies teammate Tony Allen.
The NBA 2020-21 season will begin on Tuesday, December 22.
