Shadows of the Empire is one of the most beloved Star Wars stories outside the film. It features stories that were never told in the film. At this point in time, there’s currently no confirmation about the next Star Wars movie.
Apparently, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is meant to close the trilogy that revolves around Rey and Kylo Ren. There are currently two anthology films in the franchise such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Due to this, fans are expecting more standalone movies in the future. Unfortunately, Star Wars Shadows of the Empire may not be included in the Disney canon.
Shadows of the Empire Isn’t Part Of The Disney Canon
Apparently, Shadows of The Empire was excluded from the canon in the post-Disney universe of Star Wars. Lucasfilm released Shadows of The Empire as a novel way back in 1996 and it features some of the most important stories in the old expanded universe. Nintendo 64 released a video game for it back on December 3, 1996. The graphics of the game was ahead of its time, making it one of the best games ever released for Nintendo 64. Fortunately, fans can still pick up the game and play it on their desktop through Steam.
The modern universe of Star Wars has expanded too far, making it hard for the novel story to take place. Lucasfilm also knew that they couldn’t make new stories without contradicting the EU.
Shadows of the Empire Features Stories Of Luke Skywalker
One of the most popular stories in Shadows of the Empire was Luke Skywalker creating his own lightsaber. It also features the story about the discovery of the second Death Star. The narrative is quite popular up until today, especially for diehard Star Wars fans. Dash Rendar is one of the main characters in the novel. The events happened between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Leia’s Plot May Cause Issues
Shadows of The Empire features controversial storylines that may not fit in today’s society. Apparently, there’s a story where Xizor attempted to arouse Princess Leia using his pheromones. However, society has evolved and may no longer accept a twisted and disturbing relationship. Xizor is a Falleen prince who’s apparently a sexual predator. His main powers are altering a woman’s ability to consent, giving him the advantage to do any sexual acts he wishes.
